      Winter view

Your connection with nature can begin the minute you arrive!

Enjoy the sights and sounds of the forest as you back pack from your car up a gravel backroad ending with a short, steep hill to the escarpment and a cell tower that is a part of the homestead's modern farming additions.

Your effort will be rewarded with a stunning view of Golden Lake and the forested Bonnechere Valley.

Next you will travel past a wetland area bursting with wildlife to another level of the escarpment which is the location of your own private trail to the "Algonquin Wolf Cabin". The trail is well marked and leads you through the unique oak ridge environment of glacial boulder erratics, ferns, lichens and mosses. Turkeys, deer, chipmunks and birds love the buffet of acorns that can be foraged here.

The hike to this cabin is approximately 1.7km in length in the winter, during the other seasons you can park at our 2nd parking lot, only 600 m from there.

OR ...JUST RELAX!! Book a SHUTTLE for yourself and gear (or maybe just the gear;) No Charge!

      The Sarah Lesley Cabin Experience...

The nature hike to this cabin begins along a small gravel road that winds slowly upwards introducing you to the sights, sounds and smells of the forest. Take your time and watch for deer, turkey, grouse and song birds along the way towards the steep climb at the escarpment base.

The Sarah Lesley Trail is for your own private use during your stay. It crosses over a small wooden bridge and winds its way around the edge of a spring fed pond, rich with wildlife and seasonal flowers and plants unique to a wetland habitat.

The cabin itself is placed to suit the landscape of the Deacon Escarpment. You will find this open area has large rocky outcrops, lichens, pines and oaks, and some steep drops. Practice caution around these areas and stay back from the edges. The up drafts along the escarpment are favourite flying areas for Turkey Vultures, Hawks, and Bald and Golden Eagles!
